Healthy Doc - Healthy Coach Series: Overcome Fatigue Naturally
Your HEALTHY DOC - Dr. Nigma T. Sciortino, ND
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a common ailment arising from the “go, go, go” of everyday life.
The more tired you get, the more your body with give you warning signs of symptoms of chronic fatigue and ongoing discomfort, such as body aches and pain. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a result of years of abuse on our bodies such as: ongoing stress, poor nutrition, exposure to chemicals and food allergens.
Many times, you will go to your doctor and you will hear, “Nothing is wrong with you. All of your blood work is fine.”
The good news is that there are ways to assess the underlying reasons as to why you have ongoing fatigue through food allergy testing (ELISA blood analysis) and Adrenal Testing.
What you eat everyday may be causing chronic inflammation in your body. One person’s medicine may be another’s poison. Food allergies should be ruled out by your Naturopathic physician in order to assess what diet is good for you. Some of the common food allergies are corn, gluten, dairy, wheat and soy. But don’t be fooled, you may even be allergic to the very foods you would have never guessed, so get your food allergy test to double check.
In addition, testing your adrenal glands - your stress glands - evaluates bioactive levels of the body's important stress hormones, cortisol and DHEA and serves as a critical tool for uncovering biochemical imbalances that can underlie anxiety, chronic fatigue, obesity, diabetes and a host of other clinical conditions.
So if you exercise on a daily basis and cannot loose that spare tire in your mid section no matter how much you diet and exercise and/or have problems getting to sleep, it might be time to go to your Naturopathic Physician for an assessment to get the root of the problem and to find the right “tune up” for you.
Your HEALTHY COACH – Annette Dykes, MCC, CPT
So often we burden ourselves with “shoulds” that leave us tired and worn out. “Shoulds” are the things that you believe are “right” or “honourable” to do, even if they give you no pleasure or satisfaction in doing them. These commitments, responsibilities, even people, drain your energy and hold you back by tiring you out and making everything else if your life #1 other than yourself.
If you want to be healthy, making yourself #2 (or even last on the list) isn’t an option!
The first step to identifying where you might be playing a role in your own fatigue, is to take a look at the areas in your life where you are over-committing yourself. Do you REALLY need to volunteer at your child’s school AGAIN? Do you need to take on the responsibility of president of your local networking group? Are you sure that you are the only one who can handle the many responsibilities that you have?
Ask yourself: “Where can I leverage my time, energy or money in this situation?” Often times you can leverage your time, energy and money by asking for help, delegating and task, or hiring someone to do the work for you.
But beware of the dreaded “should”… if you hear yourself saying, “But I should be doing that myself….” Then you’ve been caught in the trap again…
There are no “shoulds,” only choices. So take a look at the choices you’re making and see where you might be able to make better choices in alignment with your goals. As you get rid of your energy drainers, your spirit will lift and your energy will soar.
Now that’s what I call good energy.
Go for it!
