Resolving To Stay Healthy This Season
Most of us who work in an office confront or avoid food temptations daily.
It is especially hard however, resisting our holiday favorites.
According to the American Heart Association people put on the most unwanted pounds during October through January.
From Halloween to New years our senses are overwhelmed with the smells of caramel apples, savory baked turkeys, pecan pies, and cinnamon topped eggnog.
It seems almost impossible to take refuge in sitting as far away from the decorative tables abound with rich pastries and trays of scrumptious hors d'oeuvres bombarding us at every turn. Sipping on water and nibbling carrots when most everyone around us is going gaga over every devoured morsel only compounds our challenge. Actually with a little preplanning, you can maintain a healthy lifestyle over the holidays and still be merry.
Here are ways you feel nice and not so naughty:
- 1. Eat light during the day if you know you are going to have a big meal later.
- 2. Leave for a buffet on a full rather than empty stomach.
- 3. Avoid sugary drinks that only stimulate your appetite and make you more thirsty
- 4. Try to focus on the meaning of the holiday, the festivities at hand and the reunion with others rather than the food.
- 5. Stay with low calorie and watery appetizers like cucumbers and celery.
- 6. Choose the smallest size plate to eat from.
- 7. Keep socializing far away from the food and alcohol.
- 8. Share a dessert with somebody else.
- 9. Take off all the rich and heavy toppings before digging in.
- 10. Rehearse ways to refuse food offerings
- 11. Reach for people's hands and not the salty snacks just because it is there
Remember that willpower and preplanning are the keys to being a guilt-free guest this holiday season.
