Want to Lose Weight? Trust Your Gut
Your body knows best… if you don’t think your body should be eating something, don’t eat it! Even if you think you “should” eat something because of its nutrient content or because you read somewhere that this food is a miracle cure for something or a guaranteed weight loss miracle food, if your body says “NO!”, then listen.
Your intuition is a strong force within you, a guide, if you will. Have you ever had a feeling that you should take a different route and then found out that you missed a huge traffic jam because you made the detour? Or have you ever felt that it was important to pick up the phone to call a friend, only to find out that she was in a slump and really needed a buddy to talk to right at that moment?
It happens all the time. Your intuition is a guide, but most people don’t tap into their golden intuition enough because they haven’t yet learned to trust it.
Intuition is a gift, and it can be developed with practice. All you have to do is ask yourself what to do next, or which decision to make. And the same goes for the foods you eat.
So often people will read a new diet book or a new study on the benefits of a particular food, and they will strive to eat it, even if their body goes kicking and screaming to the fridge. One client used to feel nauseous after sipping a very popular shake made with soy protein powder. She felt sick every time she drank it, but continued to do so, because she had read about the many benefits of soy.
What do you think her body was telling her? Her body was saying loud and clear, “Please stop drinking these shakes!” but she refused to listen until she learned the importance of trusting and following her intuition.
So, ask yourself: “What does my body want to eat now?” Then follow the voice of your intuition. If you constantly feel attracted to or repulsed by certain foods – listen to your intuition and follow your own lead.
Of course, people often wonder how to tell the difference between the voice of the ego and the voice of intuition. Because the ego can be quite seductive, it’s easy to think that the message to eat the quart of chocolate ice cream in your freezer is a good idea. But if you slow down, stop, and really tune in, you’ll often find that what you’re craving isn’t food at all.
Practice listening to what your body and your mind ask of you… and soon you will become a master
at distinguishing your intuition from your ego.
Always remember that your intuition knows best and you are not “required” to eat anything specific (unless, of course, prescribed or
recommended by a doctor).
